I decided it was about time for a holiday for myself after so much work, and deaths in the family. I haven’t been blogging much lately as it’s been so hectic, although I have been on twitter a bit. As my twitter stalkers will know, I took a week off general life and celebrated my birthday for part of that interstate in Sydney. I had a seriously amazing time relaxing, dancing, eating, shopping and being silly, which was sorely needed. I didn’t have my SLR with me but I did get some happy snaps on a teeny digi cam. Most of them were taken during karaoke or drinking and came out horribly blurry, but I did get a few super fun ones :p
Theo, Laura and I left Melbourne on Friday at about midday to go to the airport which tbh was totally sucky as I was pretty hung over, but that was my fault. The damned flight was turbulent as, and this annoying little shit was in the sit in front of me jumping around and yelling “We are going to die!!” and shit. Oh how I hate people’s darling little cherubs and wish they could be banned from airplanes! Heh, if only. We met up with Viola at the hotel and bummed around for a bit before going shopping to get me a dress for the musical we were seeing on Saturday night.
After dragging everyone around for AGES to find the perfect dress and shoes (because I’m a jerk and dragging unwilling shopping buddies around on my birthday weekend satisfies my social sadism) we decided to go out for dinner then hit up a Cuban / Latin bar we’d heard about for sangria, mohitos and cigars, because why not? :p It was pretty fun, but everyone there was really mean. People in Sydney seem to all have some sort of stick up their asses in a non fun sex time way. Calm the fuck down Sydney-siders. If you can’t smile in a club full of girls in slinky dresses, drinking and dancing to Latin tunes you need to rethink your life! :p I was hoping to meet a twitter follower there, but we didn’t end up catching up, but oh well. Next time.
Once we’d smoked our cigars like bosses (which looks pretty damned silly), Viola led my companions dancing and singing loudly through the streets while walking like gibbons in the pouring rain in front of some grumpy ass looking cops, with me in tow. I love my embarrassing friends! LOL. We weren’t sure where to go but we found a cool Korean karaoke bar. I’m pretty sure the staff thought we were crazy, or at least really, really weird. Sadly ALL the pics of us singing are blurry as heck, which sucks because the ones of me singing Aqua and pulling dramatic faces and poses were all pretty funny. I love how bad karaoke videos are, and I’m pretty inspired to make some bad ones with 80s hair and long panning, hazy, slow mo beach running shots XD
We left at midnight because after 11 nowhere is allowed to sell you alcoholic drinks, and they took them away at midnight. WTF SYDNEY!? We just back to the hotel and cleared out the mini bar which wasn’t very exciting, and I tried in vain to sleep while everyone else was being annoying and partying. I was so tired from the flight, but I did fall asleep once we’d pushed the two big beds into the middle of the room to form a giant bed which I was sad housekeeping disassembled. Spoil sports.
Saturday morning we slept through and had breakfast at an Irish pub (Breakfast beer and schnitzels!) before more shopping and bumming around. We actually didn’t have much time at Paddy’s market before we had to go and get ready for Legally Blonde. I took a snap of my outfit (well, the top half of it) because I was looking bustylicious. I think I’ll wear this top more often in future.
I admit, Legally blonde the movie is a guilty favorite of mine but I’d never seen the musical before. Viola had seen a video of the broadway production and loved it, so I couldn’t wait to see it. I was surprised how good it was, even though they made changes from the movie. They had live dogs on the stage, and Bruiser was sooooo cute 😀 😀 It was a great birthday treat. I really love live performances and musicals are my favorite by far. They were serving pink macaroons and some sort of delicious pink daquaries (which weren’t strawberry… suspicious).
After the show we went straight back to the hotel because it was past the drinking curfew and I wanted to get a bath in before we left because I don’t have one at home. I turned it on as soon as we got to the hotel while Theo ventured for food, which I then super classily ate in the bath, with my shoes still on. Fuck the haters, you know you are jealous of my awesome life choices! LOL
It’s my birthday and I’ll be silly if I want too! :p
I had such a great time and we did so many things that I haven’t mentioned but some of it is a bit too weird to be easily explained or probably wouldn’t make sense if you weren’t there, like my terrible ‘Baaaaarbraaaaaah’ jokes. Thank you for all your birthday wishes, emails, tweets and messages. You are the best! Now that I’m done with my R&R get ready to see and hear a little more of me 😀
